A practical guide to hiring domestic staff
Turn a long list of household needs into a clear role, a useful interview and a sensible working agreement.
Start with a normal day
Write down the tasks you need completed and when they need to happen. A cook preparing three meals has a different schedule from a helper handling laundry and floors. Specify household size, regular guests and any stairs or outdoor areas. Separate essential duties from occasional requests.
Compare the actual arrangement
Choose a day shift, part-time visit or live-in arrangement based on the work. Discuss arrival and finish times, rest days, transport and, for live-in staff, suitable accommodation, meals and privacy. Living at the property does not mean being available around the clock.
Use an interview that reflects the job
Ask candidates to describe similar work they have done. Discuss a normal busy day and how they organise priorities. If you arrange a practical assessment, agree its scope, duration and any payment beforehand. Check references with the candidate’s permission and verify role-specific credentials where needed.
Put the agreement in writing
Record duties, pay, payment date, work hours, time off, who provides supplies and how either side can raise concerns or end the arrangement. Keep a copy for both parties. Ask Hire Staff Islamabad to confirm the placement terms and which checks have been completed for the candidate.
